This is out my back door. Unfortunately there is apartment crap in the foreground that could not be eliminated....unless I used my Photoshop skills...lol...but there are two walk way light, a sign, and doggy "poop" station (ie plastic bag dispenser and trash receptacle for when bag is filled. Now, didn't you all want to know that.....

But even with all that stuff still in the picture, I really don't think it detracts from the beauty of the scene in general. Snow on trees is just so cool!!!

Been awhile, what not with Christmas and New Years...not to mention my sister-in-laws and fathers birthdays fall right after the holidays, in December and January....whew!...so between time and money, it's been a little tough to squeeze in extensive street shooting. But, last week for four days I went to NYC. Saw "Book of Eli" when it openned on Friday...totally not the plot I expected...and that made the movie much better. Then most of Saturday I was out shooting...morning, afternoon, and night. The picture presented here is probably my best shot of the photo outing....in my humble opinion. It was actually shot with a 5D 35mm f/2.0 lens, and converted in Photoshop to B&W using mostly a method described in http://www.aftercapture.com/storage/articles/AC0409_RAW_Black&White_Salwen.pdf , which is also found on the Educational Links portion of my website. They key to it is the ability to use the HSL/Grayscale color sliders to contrast control the conversion, much like using color contrast filters on film cameras.....only photoshop gives you a few thousand choices ;-)

Next trip for street shooting should be Philadelphia, PA. Can't promise any "winners", as per centages dictate a lot when shooting street.....above and beyond the normal winner per centage when you have all the time in the world to shoot. Street shooting requires same skill level as all photography....but there is a WHOLE lot of luck involved in it when you're grabbing candid shots of people who may or may not care if you shoot them.

My twin grandsons were in a church play, entitled fumbly Bumbly Angels, last Sunday. Was supposed to be the Sunday before Christmas but 2 feet of snow postponed that until the Sunday after Christmas. One of them was an angel and the other was one of the 3 kings. I'll let you guess which ones they were.

The article is written by Edwin Westhoff. Thedirect link to the explanation is http://www.diagonalmethod.info/ . Incredibly interesting tool for composition. According to Westhoff's research, the "great" painters and photographers actually appear to apply this method more than the "rule of thirds" or the Golden Rectangle. Well worth a read!

Well, since moving from Brooklyn to Southern NJ, I've visitted NYC twice.....heh.....yeah, can't stay away from the place. Both visits were to meet up with photographer friends (and new photographer aquantinces) I've met over the years. The three above are just some of the most recent meet ups.

As you can imagine, most photographers don't relish being on the "other end" of the camera, but these chaps were very accomodating....thanks guys!

well, haven't posted anything in over 2 years, so i'm gonna make the effort.

So, what's been going on in two years? Moved to Brooklyn NY from southern NJ. Got a job with B&H Photo in NYC. Crazy schedule left little room for shooting let alone a blog or website. Last fall my foot got infected, and put me out of commision until March of this year. And also around that time got laid off from B&H. So I am among the ranks of the unemployed now.......and back in southern NJ. Could barely afford rent in NYC when I had a job....no job....impossible!

But, moving to southern NJ has it's benefits. I get to see my 5 year ofd twin grandsons a whole lot more.

I don't usually post anything but pictures on this site, but i recently found a music website that I like. Been listenning to it for over a month now, and all it does is get better. Pandora lets you create your own radio station based upon a music group, then from it's data base plays it and other groups they consider related. This "related" list is actually populated by you, because you let them know what you think of the choice, and I guess if enough people say the same thing, they modify it. They also periodically add, by suggestions they gather, groups to your radio station. You can have several radio stations

....and it's free.......although they do eventually ask you to register. But, the only email I have gotten from them in the last month are when they upgrade your radio station with more selections. Pretty cool. No, I am not affiliated with them in any way, shape or form. Just think they do a really nice job of what they do.........and i appreciate that a lot.

Of course, they also have a method of you adding your favorites in a list, which of course has links to places on the web to buy the music..........heh...........you didn't think you'de get away from some sort of "buy me" now did ya?! No, I have bought nothing, just listen to them.........heh.
